CBI vets MlA associate's bank accounts

PNS

For the third time, the Central Bureau Investigation (CBI) sleuths on Wednesday forayed into Banki during past five days in connection with investigations into chit fund scam and involvement of political leaders in it.

After searching the Banki MlA Pravat Tripathy’s house on Saturday and his close associate and contractor Subash Padhy’s house on Monday, a team of four CBI officials on Wednesday vetted documents in two banks located in Banki.

Reports reaching here said that the CBI team scrutinised accounts in branches of a rural bank and a cooperative bank. While the CBI and the bank authorities refused to divulge anything, it is learnt that Padhy has savings accounts in these two branches and has made several transactions during past four years.

Sources further disclosed that the CBI officials also enquired about any operational accounts in the name of Banki Festival, the president and general secretary of which are Tripathy and Padhy respectively. The MlA, as the president of the Banki Festival, has authorised its general secretary and the treasurer to open and operate an account in the local branch of the rural bank.

It may be mentioned here that during the earlier house searches of Tripathy and Padhy, the CBI officials had seized a number of incriminating documents and it is believed that the Wednesday’s searches of the bank account were made after perusing those seized documents.
