A Special Court on Monday granted a 10-day remand of Odia newspaper owner Madhu Mohanty to the CBI, while rejecting the bail plea of Mohanty.

Hearing the CBI’s plea, the court allowed the Central investigating agency to take Mohanty on remand and sent TV channel owner Manoj Das to judicial custody. Sources said the court would take a decision on the bail plea of Das on Tuesday.

Earlier in the day, both the media owners were produced before the special court. Notably, Mohanty and Das were arrested on Sunday by the CBI for having alleged links with chit fund company AT Group.

Meanwhile, Alok Jena, on whose petition the Supreme Court directed the CBI probe into the scam along with RTI activist Jayanta Kumar Das, lawyers Satyabrata Pradhana and Anoop Das met the CBI officials on Monday afternoon and handed them over some explosive documents regarding chit fund scam in the State.

The petitioner and his group said The Pioneer that they produced evidences against Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s direct link in the chit fund scam. They also supplied information that minimum 38 political persons were involved in the scam. Jena also informed the CBI about the chit fund company’s international link.
