The inquiry team of the National Commission for Women (NCW), investigating the mysterious death of Ayush doctor Madhabilata Pradhan, informed that it would send its preliminary report with recommendations to the State Government by May 15 and seek an action taken report (ATR) from the Government on its recommendations within a stipulated time. If it does not satisfy the commission, it might recommend for a CBI probe, said NCW inquiry committee member Manasi Pradhan.

“As per Section 10 (3) of the NCW Act, 1990, a copy of  preliminary NCW report would be sent to the State Govt for acting on the commission’s recommendations”, said a release issued by Pradhan.

“ The Government would be given a stipulated time to act on the recommendation and file an ATR. Based on the ATR, further course of action would be decided by the NCW inquiry team on whether the CBI would be asked to investigate the case or not,” said a release issued by Pradhan.

The team started its inquiry on May 2 and during the period of probe, met the parents, relatives, friends and hospital colleagues of Madhabilata and recorded their statements. The team also visited Kanas, where Madhabilata was posted and Malatipatpur station, where her body was retrieved on October 12 last year.

Sources also said the team sought clarifications on the transfer policy of the State Government and also on the policy to ward off women employees from harassment and political pressure.

Notably, taking cognizance of widespread media reports and several petitions in the mysterious murder of the Ayush doctor, the NCW had constituted an inquiry committee to probe the case on April 26 last, comprising Dr Charuwali Khanna Manasi Pradhan and Usha Kumari.
