CB team leaves for Kunduli for probe

A Crime Branch (CB) team led by an SP on Monday left for Koraput to investigate into the suicide of the Kunduli gangrape victim, Dalit girl Sasmita, after DGP RP Sharma ordered a probe into the incident.

The team will conduct further investigation into the unnatural death  case already registered by the police in Koraput.

Crime Branch SP Prashant Jena said, “Our special team led by SP-2 and DSP for detailed investigation. Our team has officially taken over the investigation into the case. We’ll simultaneously look after the two cases. As the case is being investigated, we cannot reveal all the details. The report will be out once the investigation is over.”

The DGP has also asked the Crime Branch to investigate into discrepancies in the reports of the State Forensic laboratory(SFl) on the Kunduli gangrape, which has triggered a controversy. Though initial tests conducted at SFl had found traces of semen of two persons in the undergarments of the victim, subsequent reports didn’t mention about it. However, the SFl has claimed that its reports are authentic and the initial report was an inter-divisional report.
