CB takes Sarmistha, aide on remand again

PNS

The Crime Branch (CB) police on Sunday took prime accused Sarmistha Rout and her associate Jhuna Bhoi on remand again for further investigations into the cameraman Manas Swain murder case.

The Chandbali JMFC Court allowed the investigating agency to take Sarmistha and Jhuna on a three-day remand for interrogation. Besides, the court sent the other two accused, Niranjan Sethi and Ranjan Nayak, to jail.

Earlier in the day, the Crime Branch had produced the four accused in the JMFC Court after their five-day remand period had ended on Saturday.

Source said the investigating agency had prayed the court for permission to take all four on remand for another five days for questioning.

A Crime Branch team had taken Sarmistha and Niranjan to website and magazine ‘Sampoorna’ office at Sundarpada in Bhubaneswar to recreate the crime scene.

Source said Niranjan had confessed to his involvement in the crime before the Crime Branch team. But the agency is yet to recover the memory chip, for which it is suspected that Manas was eliminated.
