The Special Task Force (STF)  of the State Crime Branch police on Monday moved a court in New Delhi seeking a 15-day remand of suspected al-Qaeda operative Mohd Abdur Rehman for further interrogation. “We have moved a remand plea in a Delhi court to take Abdur Rehman on a 15-day remand,” Crime Branch Special DG BK Sharma told reporters.

Earlier this month, the STF had moved the Salepur Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court seeking a 14-day remand of Rehman which was granted by the court. Notably, the Odisha police are seeking further remand of Rehman, who is currently in the remand of the Jharkhand police.

It may be recalled that the Delhi police and the Cuttack Commissionerate Continued on Page 4 CB moves Delhi court for remand of Rehman Police in a joint operation had arrested the 37-year-old Rehman from his house on December 16 last. He was picked up from his house at Satabatia village in the Paschimakachha area under the Jagatpur police limits in Cuttack district.

He was booked under provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Rehman, who ran a madrasa at Tangi near Cuttack, is suspected to have international links in countries like Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Dubai.

Notably, police had said that Rehman had links with a man involved in a failed car bomb attack at the Glasgow international airport in 2007. Further, it is alleged that he is a member of al-Qaeda in Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) and was radicalising local youths for terror activities.
