Casting couch case: Bail pleas of Papu, aide rejected by court

DEBADAS PRADHAN

Even as the casting couch minor girl victim’s parents insisted on granting bail to Ollywood actor and expelled BJD leader Tattwa Prakash Satpathy aka Papu Pompom, the Khordha District and Sessions Judge Court here on Monday rejected the bail plea of the actor along with that of his associate Pradip Swain aka Gitu in connection with a sexual harassment of a minor girl for giving her a chance in the Ollywood.

Meanwhile, the counsel of the actor and his associate Ashok Kumar Routray said they would decide the future course of action only after studying the judgement of the court.

Khordha Child Welfare Committee (CWC) member Benudhar Senapati whose intervention made the case against the actor strong said they were hopeful that the court would not entertain the bail applications.

“Whether the parents of the victim get consent or not but the CWC will definitely intervene in the case and continue counselling the minor girl,” said Senapati.

However, the parents of the victim did not utter a word about the compromise petition filed by them during the hearing. The victim was also present in the court during the hearing. The court heard the arguments from both the sides.

Both the actor and his associate were produced in the court through videoconferencing from the Jharpada Speical Jail.

Though the actor’s counsel tried to impress the court that the parents of the victim were not informed when the FIR was filed against his client nor was their permission sought during the inquiry by the CWC and hence the case does not have a legal stand, but the public prosecutor insisted on rejection of bail pleas arguing that since the actor could influence the witnesses and tamper with evidence if went out of jail.
