The Baleswar Town police registered a case against a doctor of a nursing home after relatives of a deceased woman lodged a complaint stating that the patient died due to administration of a wrong dose of injection.

The case was registered under Sections 294, 284, 302 and 202 of IPC against Dr Bijay Khandelwala, informed IIC of Town PS Manas Deo.

Deceased Subasini Das (53) had been admitted at the Durga Nursing Home near Chidia Polo on Tuesday for a laparoscopic surgery to remove stones from her gallbladder. After the surgery, she seemed normal, but complained of severe waist pain towards evening on Wednesday. The doctor prescribed an injection, but she died within five to ten muniutes after administration of the dose.

Her relatives, besides alleging wrong injection dose, demanded that the case sheet and the prescriptions be given to them. Tension ensued as the nursing home authorities allegedly didn’t give the case data. They further alleged that the nursing home altered the case sheet and demanded postmortem of the body.

As the tension aggravated, a platoon of police force was deployed to prevent any untoward incident at the nursing home. While the situation was brought under control by the police, an autopsy was conducted on the body at the district hospital on Thursday.
