Sanitation works at the Capital Hospital in the city have been affected following a strike by the concerned workers which entered the second day on Tuesday.
Wastes have not been lifted from inside wards and other areas of the hospital. As per reports, 250 sanitation workers are staging a dharna against the award of tender to a new outsourcing agency.
The agitating workers’ demands include EPF EST registration of every worker, no retrenchment of workers without valid reasons and Durga Puja bonus.
The agitators are also demanding hike in wages and opposing the new tender and other rules in the engagement.
“There are several workers who have been working for the last 10 to 15 years. We were getting Rs 385 per day and getting salary regularly. We are demanding a hike in case of new tender. However, the authorities are forcing us to work at old rate,” alleged the agitators.
The sanitation workers have threatened to intensify their agitation if their wages are not revised.
