The All India Congress Committee (AICC) Screening Committee, which is scrutinising the list of candidates for the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Odisha, on Saturday sent the list of selected candidates to the Central Election Committee (CEC) for its approval.

Sources said on the day, marathon discussions were held by the committee in New Delhi to select the candidates for the fourth phase of the polls.

Discussions were held on the list send by Pradesh Election Committee (PEC) for six Lok Sabha and 42 Assembly constituencies.

AICC Odisha in-charge Jeetandra Singh said, “Today discussions were held by the screening committee for 50 to 60 seats. The list of candidates sent by the screening committee for the first phase elections was considered by the CEC today.”

The name of probable women candidates was also discussed in the meeting.

PCC president Niranjan Patnaik, Congress youth leader Pradeep Majhi and MLA Chiranjib Biswal were present at the meeting.

It may be noted that the PEC had earlier sent names of probable candidates to the AICC screening committee for consideration and approval.
