The Department of Ophthalmology of the VIMSAR, Burla, in collaboration with AIOS, OSOS, IMA and Sambalpur Ophthalmic Society organised a free diagnostic camp for screening of diabetes and diabetic retinopathy and CME here on Sunday.
Organising chairman Prof Dr J Dora, organising co-chairman Prof Dr GS Dash and organising secretary Dr PK Sharma examined patients.
“Out of the total 79 persons came for checkup, 35 had already knew their diabetic status. But only five persons came to know from here only,” said programme coordinator Monalisa Nayak.
But all these people were unaware of the retina disorder with them. Three of them were found with severe retina disorder, informed co-chairman Dash. All these persons were referred to the VIMSAR to get requisite retina treatment. “The entire expenditure for such patients will be borne by State Government. This programme will be helpful in eradicating blindness due to the dreadful diabetes and damage in retina thereafter,” he added.
