The Central Action Committee (CAC) fighting for establishment of a High Court Bench in western Odisha will meet the Chief Justice of the Odisha High Court on November 4.

The CAC would apprise the Chief Justice about the justification behind the demand for a HC Bench in this region, informed CAC member and senior advocate Satyanarayan Panda here on Wednesday.

“We have also requested Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for an appointment on this subject. But we are yet to get any reply from his office,” Panda said. “We will mainly discuss on the matter of the recommendation of the Chief Minister to the Centre for establishing a HC Benches in western and southern Odisha and the reply of the Union law Minister to the Chief Minister and the Chief Justice of Odisha,” Panda said.

An emergency meeting of the lawyers of Sambalpur chaired by Pradeep Kumar Bahidar was held on the day to chalk out the further course of action on the issue including the protest of the High Court Bar Association against HC Benches. Discussion was also held on the ‘No court, no vote’ call all over the western districts. The Sambalpur lawyers expressed concern over the police action on their counterparts at Sonepur and Jharsuguda. “Advocates are staking their demands peacefully. Hence, any action on them by police will be taken seriously,” they warned.
