'Bureaucratic hurdle hits ease of doing biz'

PNS

Bureaucratic hurdle is the main reason for which India lags behind many countries in competitive advantage for various industries. The country is facing difficult times in terms of investment. In view of this, the State Government is trying to overcome such hurdles by doing as much as possible for ease of doing business, said Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi addressing a seminar on “laws and Economics of Competition” here on Friday.

The seminar was jointly organsied by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) and the Competition Commission of India (CCI).

Padhi said that as part of its initiatives, the Odisha Government is trying to bring everything online as much as possible to reduce human interface with the Government departments and make easier for outside entrepreneurs and companies to come and start their ventures in the State.

The Government has set up a State-level facilitation cell as a one-stop solution for investment issues though it is not yet fully operational. “Besides, we are trying to set up a centralized inspection framework, where we try to bring together inspection in-charge officials from the Pollution Control Board and the labour Commission to do their inspection and post their report after 48 hours of completing the inspection, thereby reducing human interface,” said the Chief Secretary.

The State Government is also focusing on Skill Odisha. It has set up the Odisha Skill Development Authority under the leadership of Subrat Bagchi

Sambad editor Soumya Ranjan Patnaik said the Competition Commission of India promotes healthy competition and generates growth. However, the idea of competition has only been restricted to the business field only. He called upon the industries to promote competition in non-business sectors for an overall development of a nation.

Among others, ICSI president Mamta Binani and Bhubaneswar Chapter president Ashok Kumar Mishra and CCI member Sl Bunker spoke on the role and responsibilities of the CCI.
