Builder looted of car, gold chain

KRUSHNA CHANDRA PANDA

Once again, criminals successfully demonstrated their strength to the city police by looting a car and gold ornaments from a city-based builder at the Gopalpur Panthanivas on Wednesday night.

The unidentified miscreants even succeeded in escaping after administering drugs in builder N Nanda Gopal and his driver lingaraj Panda.

When the builder didn’t return home at Gandhinagar, his family members went to the Pantnivas on Thursday morning and rescued the two in semi-unconscious state. They soon admitted them in the MKCG Medical College Hospital. Only then, the police went to the hospital and recorded their statements.

Nobody had been arrested by the time the report was filed.

Sources said Gopal had received a telephone call on Wednesday that a business man from Delhi has come to Gopalpur for purchase of some land and wants to meet him. Encouraged by the call, Gopal along with his driver went to Gopalpur to meet the businessman for a deal.

When Gopal didn’t return home in the night, his family members telephoned to him and his driver but none of them responded. But after some time, an unknown person made a call from Gopal’s phone and informed in Hindi that both the builder and his driver are taking dinner and would be late to reach home.

Meanwhile, the manager of the builder too received a message from a different number that the “deal has become final and they all would take sweets in the morning”. With this, the family members were relaxed.

But, the family members got perplexed when Nanda didn’t return home by Thursday morning. They soon went to the Panthnivas and enquired about them from employees. When the employees went to the businessman’s room and knocked the door. After repeated knocks, Gopal opened the door and thereafter explained about the incident to his family members over phone.

The doctors suspect that both the victims were given some drugs by the criminals before they took away his car, gold chain, gold ring and some hard cash from Gopal.

While police are yet to nab the miscreants, the incident has triggered panic among denizens of Brahmapur.
