B'swar NH normal as truckers call off stir

PNS

With the district truckers’ association having withdrawn its stir, truck and lorry services in the district have become normal. Hundreds of trucks and lorries importing various things, including highly perishable goods, were stranded for about four days on the national highway as a nation-wide strike was held.

The drivers and helpers on a long route journey had a tough time to find toilet, bathroom, food and rest room etc, besides guarding their own vehicles and goods. Many trucks faced loots and wrath of anti -socials as well.

The transporters’ strike was acute in the district as the local association, BTCC, actively participated in it. The trucks and lorries were found stranded in long line from laxmannth gate to Basta. Similarly, near Baleswar town, a big line was seen from Haldipada to Khantapara covering Remuna region.

The picketing by the local transport association also caused an escalation of price of goods, mainly potato and vegetables. The local industries too faced a lot of difficulties to import raw materials as well as to send their finished products.

local MP RK Jena had intervened in the matter and had asked the district administration to resolve the issue. The administration held a meeting with the association for an early solution.

Manoj Das, an association member, said, “The stranded trucks and lorries were cleared by 3 am. Now normalcy has been restored.” In the meantime, police arrested two miscreants who looted four cartons of readymade garments from a Tamil Nadu bound truck detained near laxmannath check gate.

The accused persons were identified as Susanta Das and Prasant Das, siblings and were forwarded to court. The loot articles too were recovered from them.
