Digitalisation of PDS could be one of the best solutions to prevent pilferage and bring transparency to the distribution system. With this idea, Baleswar MP RK Jena had discussions with the district Collector. The representatives of Tata trust were also present in the meeting. Jena urged Collector Pramod Das to send a proposal to the State Government to consider Baleswar district as a pilot district for implementing the PDS digitalisation.
“During my discussion with Tata trust Chairman Ratan Tata, I had urged him to extend some supports for development of Baleswar. And, Tata had suggested for digitalization of PDS. He had further said that with the intervention of the Tata trust, the same was implemented in States like UP and AP. Not only has it been successful, but the intervention has yielded wonderful result. 37 per cent in pilferage volume has reduced,” said Jena.
“The digitalization would be made by linking the Adhaar number of the beneficiaries with the system. Further, the items would be delivered to the beneficiaries after obtaining their biometric thumb impressions and Adhaar authentication. Considering all these aspects, a discussion was made with the district Collector and I urged him to send a proposal to the State Government. Further, many educated youths can find employment opportunity in the process of implementing the digitalization,” he said.
