A BSF jawan was arrested by the Railway police for attempting to rape a girl in a running train.
Aswini Kumar (33), a resident of Balabandha in Ara district of Bihar, has been booked under Sections 341, 354, 294, 323 & 506 of IPC and forwarded to court.
Kumar reportedly forced open the door of the lavatory when the girl, a student of an engineering college at Gunupur, was shutting the door after going in and molested her shortly before the train reached the Rourkela station at about 7.20 am on Sunday morning, according to police sources.
The girl, however, managed to escape and raised an alarm. Other passengers then overpowered the jawan and informed the Rourkela Railway police about the incident over phone.
Kumar was arrested as soon as the train halted at the Rourkela station.
The girl, who belongs to Jamshedpur, later left for her home with a friend who was travelling with her in the Koraput-Rourkela Intercity Express.
