Jawans of the Border Security Force (BSF) defused an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) during a combing operation in Taksipadar forest under the Phirngia police station in Kandhamal district on Friday.

It was suspected that the IED had been planted by Maoists to target security personnel during combing operations.

As per reports, the dog squad of the BSF detected the IED during a combing operation in the jungle. Following the detection, a bomb squad was called in who defused the explosive successfully.

The IED was assembled using a two-litre steel tiffin box, 50 gram gelatin sticks, a six volt battery, adhesive tapes, and 20 metre of flexible wire.

Following the incident, the BSF personnel intensified the search operations in the area.
