Brahmapur Municipal Corporation (BMC) Mayor K Madhavi flagged off the first Urban Mobile Health Unit here on Wednesday. BMC Commissioner Manoj Mohanty, ADMO (Public Health) Dr RK Patnaik, BMC Health Officer Dr Subhakanta Das and scores of BMC officers were present during the inauguration.
The mobile health unit would provide healthcare at their doorsteps and create awareness about preventive measures for various diseases among citizens in 44 slums in the city, Madhavi said.
It would move to different wards and work for eight hours a day and 22 days a month, she added. The van has a doctor, a pharmacist and an assistant to meet the emergency cases. Besides, it has equipment required to draw blood samples from patients, check blood pressure and conduct such basic examinations, Madhavi said.
