PNS

In order to make people aware of the harmful impact of firecracker blasting, children in slums celebrated Diwali in a different way and spirit.

With support of the Youth for Social Development (YSD), the Children’s Federation organised the programmes like rangoli competition and lightening of candle in slums. looking at the harmful impacts of firecrackers and other inflammable products on humans and environment, people were encouraged to celebrate Diwali in a safe manner, said Sruti Sahu of Raghupati Nagar.

Every year many people are injured and environment is polluted due to blasting harmful fire products during Diwali. So they decided to spread the message across the mass to celebrate this Diwali in a safe and healthy manner so that happiness doesn’t become sorrowful. This also saves a lot of money, which can be used for other important purposes, opined Subhasree Das.

Members of the Children’s Federation decorated streets with colourful rangolis and lighted candles in and around the rangolis in Dhimira Bauri Street, Raghupati Nagar Canal Street, Phulosundari Street, lajipalli Goudabandha Street and Gramdevati Bauri Street.

The YSD has been working to make Berhampur a ‘child-friendly smart city' and to ensure the Government provides basic services to the children living in slums and make them participate in city planning, governance and development. Child club members such as liza Das, Smurti Sahu, Amit Das and Puja Das participated while YSD’s Chandan Sahu, Abhiram Kanhar, Susmita Behera, Bala Das, Pinki Das and Kanya Kumari Das helped federation members.
