Hundreds of denizens on Tuesday got united and submitted memorandums to the Ganjam district Collector and the Excise Superintendent demanding that the
administration must not allow opening of liquor shops elsewhere in the city.
They too sought actions against some liquor traders, as they alleged, for using goons to threaten them of dire consequences for opposing opening of liquor shops.
It may be noted that liquor vendors, whose shops have been closed in 500 metre radius of National and State Highways by the order of Supreme Court since April 1, have chosen sites in interior parts of the city to open liquor shops.
Residents of Siddharth Nagar, Bhabinipur, Gautam Nagar, Ankuli and New Barracks Street have already opposed such moves and appraised the Excise Department and the Collector in this regard.
locals mentioned in the memorandum that after failing to open liquor shops due to locals’ protest, the liquor traders are now using goons and criminals to threaten them.
