M Krishnaveni (78), a resident of Sastri Nagar 5th lane, Rangunibandha Street here who was suffering from diabetes, donated her eyes before death on Monday with the consent of her two sons M Srinivas Rao and M Surya Rao.
The cornea was collected by ophthalmologists Sarita Panigrahi and Ramakanta Bhoi. The woman had been motivated by social worker and president of Friends Welfare Club A lakshminarayan (Babu) for the noble work. Krishnaveni died at 3 am at her residence and her eyes were removed at 8 am. The donated eyes are preserved in the eye lab for transplantation for a blind person as per the wish of the donor. locals hailed the gesture of the donor and her family.
