The students of the Brahmapur Nursing College have intensified their agitation since Monday demanding immediate transfer of the college’s Principal and Accountant.
Since March 28, the students have been demanding transfer of the Principal and the Accountant. They intensified their stir from Monday by boycotting their internal examinations and staged a demonstration in front of the college.Among other things, the students also demanded, hostel facilities for all nursing students, provision of a bus for their conveyance and an increase in their stipend.
Principal of MKCG Medical College Prof AK Dandapat held talks with the students and persuaded them to withdraw the agitation but in vain. The students have alleged that the behaviour of the Principal towards them is erratic and rude. Whenever they approach the authorities with their demands, they are threatened of dire consequences including reduction of marks in the examinations by the Principal.
Though the college authorities have reportedly informed the higher authorities about the students’ demands, no tangible step has yet been taken to solve the issues. The students have boycotted BSE, Basic Science and MSc internal examinations of the current session, said president of the Students’ Union Sunita Jena. However, college Principal Rajalakshmi Mishra denied the allegations, saying she has not received any complainant about her alleged misbehaviour with the students. If any such complaint comes, she is ready to face any probe, she said.
The demands of the students have, however, already been communicated to the higher authorities and solution of the demands does not fall under her administrative ambience, she added.Besides the Students’ Union president, its vice-president Jagan Kumar Ojha and secretary Mousumi Samal along with over 200 students are participating in the indefinite agitation.
