The Ganjam Bar Association would begin a four-day strike from Thursday demanding establishment of a permanent Bench of the Odisha High Court for south Odisha at Brahmapur.

The association finalised its plan to spearhead the agitation after holding an emergency meeting of its steering committee.

According to the plan, the steering committee constituted four small core groups taking senior members of the bar to contact with the members of the 15 bar associations functioning in undivided Ganjam and Gajapati districts and appeal to them to attend in large numbers the next meeting of the committee to be held on September 28 at Brahampur.

According to the decision of the committee, the lawyers with the help of trade unions would take out a procession from First Gate to labour Office on the first day of the strike. On the second day, the lawyers would hold a meeting with the Brahmapur Municipal Corporation (BMC) Mayor and corporators along with social organisations. The next day, the lawyers would hold a meeting with the bar associations of Ganjam and Gajapati district.

On the last day of the stir, the bar members would meet MlAs and MPs of the two districts to urge them to raise the issue at State level.

At the meeting, Ganjam Bar Association president Basanta Kumar Panda, secretary Rama Prasad Panda, vice president Shiva Prasad Mishra, joint secretary Karunakar Panigrahy and several other lawyers were present.
