The FIR campaign against the Naveen Patnaik-led BJD Government kicked off here in the coastal Kendrapada district as the Congress activists and BPl beneficiaries on Friday came in a rally to Kendrapada Sadar police station to lodge complaints.
As many as 449 BPl card holders of 13 gram panchayats of Kendrapada block filed individual written complaints against the Chief Minister whereas 300 BPl cardholders filed a single written complaint by signing in the complaint petition. They urged the IIC to conduct an inquiry into the alleged matter by taking necessary legal actions.
The Congress activists alleged that while the Centre is supplying 35 kg rice for each BPl family under the public distribution system (PDS), the State Government allegedly is providing 25 kg at Re 1 per kg thereby diverting 10 kg rice.
The State Government has no right to deprive poor people of the fixed quota rice. The State Government has allegedly misappropriated Rs 2,555.61 crore of allocated funds between 2002 and 2012 under the PDS rice scheme, they charged.
On the other hand, several ruling BJD activists stated that the FIR campaign launched by the Congress is purely a political gimmick as the Assembly elections are drawing close.
