The second day of famous Baripada Rath Yatra passed off peacefully on Monday.
While lord Jagannath began and completed his journey to the Mausima Mandir in a single day on Monday, His sister Subhadra, who had a night halt half-way in front of the local Town Police Station on Sunday, also arrived at her destination.
While the devotees began pulling the Darpadalan of Maa Subhadra from near the Town PS at about 2.40 pm and made it reach the Mausibadi near the Radhamohan Mandir at about 3.30 pm, lord Jagannath began the much-awaited annual journey in the Nandighosh at about 4.15 pm and reached his destination at about 5.42 pm, amidst chanting of Bhajans, Kirtans and Jay Jagannath.
As has been the custom here, Devi Subhadra’s chariot was pulled by women devotees only, while Mahaprabhu Jagannath’s chariot was pulled all the way by both men and women, belonging to all sections of the society.
Prominent among those who participated in Monday’s chariot-pulling include Mayurbhanj Collector Vineet Bharadwaj, Mayurbhanj SP Avinash Kumar, Morada MlA Praveen Bhanjdeo, Mayurbhanj ADMs and Baripada Municipality Executive Officer.
The presence of Jagannath-Bhakts at the Bada Danda here was much stronger on Monday compared to that on Sunday. It was a fine and favourable weather; and the Bada Danda witnessed a sea of humanity as over 3 lakh people took part in the annual celebration.
