A meeting was held in Udaipur forest IB in Bhograi on Wednesday in order to settle a dispute that cropped up in last few days between Odisha and West Bengal.

The row started after a forest drop gate erected by Odisha on the road between Udaipur square and the beach was allegedly dislodged by the West Bengal authorities on Sunday and in retaliation, a rail gate installed by the West Bengal police at the point was removed by the Odisha authorities. In view of the tense situation, the meeting was held to restore normalcy.

Bhograi MlA Ananta Das, the local Sarpanch, the tehsildar and the BDO of Bhograi and the sub divisional police officer (SDPO) of Jaleswar, besides the Forest staff among others represented the Odisha side, while from West Bengal side, the representatives were the Sub Divisional Magistrate of Contai Sumit Gupta, BDO Ramnagar Tamajit Chakraborty, SDPO Indrajit Basu and Forest officials.

On the contentious issue, a three-point resolution was passed. They are maintenance of the status quo of the disputed land, identification and demarcation of boundary of both States and prevention of entry of vehicle into the beach so as to protect the wildlife and bio diversity.

“There would be no gate from either sides till the demarcation is made and the issue is settled amicably. The date of measurement would be decided in the Government level of either States,” informed the Baleswar Sub Collector, who attended the meeting.
