PNS

The police on Monday recovered two bodies of suspected Maoists from the Madaguda forest under the Tumudibandha police station in Kandhamal district after a gun battle between security personnel and Maoists had taken place on Sunday night.

The police also seized three rifles and live cartridges from the jungle. Kandhamal SP Kanwar Vishal Singh said the security personnel have intensified combing operation following seizure of the arms and ammunitions.

Notably, the Special Operation Group (SOG) along with the District Voluntary Force (DVF) while conducting search operations in the forest found presence of some people in it. When the security personnel followed them, police sources said, the Maoists opened fire at them. The jawans retaliated and the gun battle continued for a few hours.

At least eight Maoist camps were destroyed in the border area of Kandhamal and Kalahandi districts and the security forces had seized a huge cache of arms and ammunitions.

Meanwhile, members of organisations like the Mithya Mokaddama Birodhi Abhijan and the Banabasi Surakshya Parishad condemned the fake encounter and demanded compensation for family members of the deceased persons.
