B'ngir MCH stone laying today; Narasingha ignored

PNS

leader of Opposition and Balangir MlA Narasingha Mishra dubbed it as ‘impropriety’ not to have been invited to the foundation stone laying ceremony of a medical college in Balangir on August 30.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will lay the foundation stone for the project which has been delayed since 1999.

In a Press release, Mishra resented that Patnaik, the Chief Minister’s Office and the Balangir district administration have not cared to invite him to the programme though he represents Balangir.

All the same, Mishra said he has urged the Chief Minister to name the medical college after great saint and poet Bhima Bhoi.

Mishra said that a decision to set up a medical college in Balangir was taken in 1999 by the Western Odisha Development Council (WODC). The then Government had allotted 40 acres land for the purpose and also given the no objection certificate (NOC).

However, subsequently, the project was virtually stopped. But before the last general elections, the Central Government framed a special scheme for setting up the medical college in which 75 per cent of the funds was to be given by the Centre and the rest 25 per cent by the State.

He thanked the Chief Minister for taking initiative for its construction and urged him to see to it that the construction of the project gets completed within two years.

Mishra also hoped that the Chief Minister would take steps for establishment of an agriculture university in Balangir and develop the district’s irrigation facility.
