Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday announced that blood donation clubs would be opened in all schools and colleges in the State to encourage youths to participate in blood donation camps in large numbers.
Speaking at a workshop of blood donors here on the occasion of completion of one year of his BJD’s blood donation programme Jeeban Bindu, Patnaik said this programme saw collection of nearly one lakh units of blood within a span of one year.
The programme had been launched by the BJD on March 5 last year on the occasion of Biju Patnaik’s birthday.
It may be mentioned that the State requires at least 14 lakh units of blood every year to meet the requirement of patients. A major portion of this requirement is met through voluntary donation.
