Police on Thursday retrieved a body of a partially blind PhD scholar of the Ravenshaw University from a drain adjacent to the New PG Hostel in the campus, where the scholar from Balangir district was staying for over a month.
“The body of Kushadhar Bag, a research scholar of Political Science Department, was retrieved from the drain,” said Malgodown Police Inspector Debi Prasad Patra, adding that there were injury marks on the body.
While the university authorities maintained that the scholar had fallen from the hostel terrace, the Blind Association of Odisha alleged that the scholar was murdered by some antisocial elements.
“We are waiting for the postmortem report to ascertain the cause of the death; and basing on the allegations of the Blind Association, the university Vice-Chancellor has ordered for an in-house inquiry into it,” informed university Registrar Maheswar Agasti.
