A scuffle between activists of the BJP Yuva Morcha and the police ensued here at Raj Mahal Square as the former tried to gherao the official residence of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena on Sunday evening demanding his resignation for his alleged involvement in a sex video and murder of an engineering student.
A large number of party activists, including women, in a bike rally were on their way to gherao the residence of the Mayor when they were obstructed by police at Raj Mahal Square. As a result, the activists had a scuffle with the police.
later, the protestors staged a road blockade by burning tyres disrupting traffic between Kalpana-AG Square and Master Canteen-Sishu Bhavan road. Following the intervention of senior police personnel, the protestors called off the stir.
Earlier in the day, party State general secretary Prithviraj Harichandan said protests would be intensified until the Mayor steps down from his position.
