The Mahila Surakhsa and Samman Yatra’ reaches at Malgam under Chandahandi block of this district on Tuesday. Meetings were held and awareness plays staged in Chandahandi and Jharigam blocks.
Former Balangir MP Sangita Singh Deo said, “There has been a sharp rise in cases of crimes against women, but the BJD Government has been silent on the issue.” The Yatra is aimed at sensitising people about the failure of the State Government in providing security to women, she added.
Among others, Kalahandi ZP President and BJP Mahila Morcha State secretary Rashmi lekha Das and Morcha district president Prabisa Kallar spoke at the meeting. On Monday, a similar meeting was held at Mantri village under Nandahandi block.
