The BJP on Tuesday demanded that Chandbali BJD MLA Byomkesh Ray be arrested for his alleged complexity in distribution of spurious liquor in Tihidi block on April 28 that killed 12 persons and left more than 80 sick.

“The then BJD MLA candidate had distributed liquor to garner votes. While two months have passed since the occurrence of the hooch tragedy, the police have arrested only one person and sat silent. Main accused ray and his associate, who is a liquor mafia, are being protected by the police,” a team of the party led by Manmohan Samal apprised the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC).

They too apprised that families of the deceased have not been provided compensation of Rs 50,000 as announced by the State Government then.

They demanded that the MLA be arrested and compensation be paid to families of the deceased persons soon.
