The BJP on Monday slammed the State Government for unscheduled power cuts happening across the State and threatened to resort to a State-wide agitation if the problem is not resolved soon.
“While heat wave conditions in the State are unbearable, unscheduled power cuts for three to five hours at different places have added to woes. It should be resolved soon otherwise the BJP would be forced to take to the street across the State,” party’s senior leader Bijay Mohapatra told reporters here.
Mohapatra said the Energy Secretary had furnished false information that a total of 4,600 mega watt of power is being produced in the State against peak requirement of 3,900 mega watt and hence there would be no power cuts during the current summer.
“The State Government will be held responsible for the irresponsible statement given by the Energy Secretary. The Government’s negligence towards people has reached the pinnacle,” he said.
Mohapatra also alleged that Secretary, who is also the Chief Administrator of the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), has been giving undignified statement against Puri Govardhan Peeth Shankaracharya Nischalananda Saraswati.
“The Shankaracharay is an institution and not dependent on the State Government. The Secretary has no right to disrespect him. He should tender apology to him soon,” Mohapatra demanded.
