The BJP on Monday exuded confidence that it would get majority by getting the magic number 272 in the lok Sabha in the General Elections and form the next Government at the Centre and the party’s results in Odisha would be “surprising”.
Addressing a Press conference here, co-in-charge of Odisha BJP Arun Singh asserted that the party’s organisational base has been getting stronger with the projection of Narendra Modi as its Prime Ministerial candidate. It was evident in the results of the elections to four State Assemblies announced on Sunday, he said.
These results would be replicated in the 2014 lok Sabha polls and in the State Assembly elections like Odisha, he said. The Naveen Patnaik-led BJD Government in Odisha has been embroiled in large-scale corruption including the multi-crore mining and chit fund scams, he said.
Alleging that the BJD won the recent urban local body polls by use of money power and misuse of Government machinery, Singh said the people of the State would teach a lesson to Naveen Patnaik in the General Elections. The General Elections would be an acid test for Patnaik as the Election Commission of India would conduct the poll process.
To a question, Singh ruled out any possibility of the BJP’s alliance with any political party including the BJD and said “We will go it alone.” “Since the BJP would get a majority in the lok Sabha, why should we approach the BJD to be our ally”, he asked.
Singh informed that Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Odisha to address a number of rallies in January and February.
