Trinamool Congress supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Benerjee, who is on a three-day Odisha visit, on Wednesday said the BJP is playing divide-and-rule politics to for its gain.

“The BJP is creating enmity among religious groups like Muslims, Hindus and Christians and regional groups like Biharis, Bengalis and Odias for their political gains,” Banerjee told mediapersons in Puri.

Reacting to BJP workers’ demonstration against her on the beef eating issue, Banerjee slammed the saffron party for making it a personal issue instead of dealing it politically. “We have ideological differences with the BJP. Instead of dealing it politically, they have made a personal issue against me. They are using the CBI against their political opponents,” she said.

When asked to comment on Mahanadi water issue, Benerjee said the BJP is siding with Chhattisgarh as it is a BJP-ruled State. She opined that all regional political parties should strengthen themselves and work concertedly to thwart political designs of the BJP. On BJP activists’ demonstration against her, she said, “I am a Hindu, and my family is religiously connected with lord Jagannath Whom I offer puja in my house. Many of my family members visit Puri a number of times in a year to offer prayers to the lord.”
