Deogarh BJP MlA Nitesh Gangdev and his cousin brother Rohit Gangdev have availed anticipatory bail from the Orissa High Court.
It was alleged that the MlA and his brother sold ceiling-surplus lands spread across Deogarh district illegally and a tehsildar of the district Piyush luhar helped them in this business.
As per information, Deogarh Jilla Nagarika Committee secretary Sudhir Kapardar had lodged an FIR against Nitesh, Rohit and the then Deogarh tehsildar Piyush luhar at the local police station in 2014. Kapardar alleged that Nitesh and Rohit sold the ceiling surplus lands which they were not supposed to do. The former tehsildar helped them in this business which was totally illegal.
Police also registered a case u/s 420, 468, 471 and 120 (b) of IPC. The matter was much in the discussion then since it was a sensitive case by a high profile family having political influence. The Gangdev brothers applied for bail in the High Court in the year 2014 itself which was rejected by the court.
But again, they applied in the High Court, which directed them to appear before the local SDJM at Deogarh and go on anticipatory bail. The court also fixed certain conditions for the bail, as is learnt. After appearing in the SDJM Court, the brothers have availed bail, sources said.
It is further learnt that former tehsildar Piyush luhar has also availed anticipatory bail from the High Court a month back.
