Unidentified miscreants on late Tuesday night set ablaze five vehicles of BJP leader and former Corporator Lala Ashok Kumar Ray at his residence in the bustling Kharvel Nagar area.
Reports said Ray and his family members were fast asleep when the incident took place.
However, they rushed outside the house at around 1.30 am after hearing an explosion and found their vehicles including, two motor bikes, two Scooty and a car on fire.
“People are not safe in Kharvel Nagar now. The miscreants have damaged vehicles completely. Had the house caught fire, we all would have been charred to death,” said Ray.On getting information, the Kharvel Nagar police rushed to the spot and started investigation. Meanwhile, it is yet to be ascertained whether the motive behind the act is political or personal enmity. The incident said to be the first of its kind in the area, has triggered shockwaves among the residents, who have demanded police to intensify patrolling and curb the increasing incidents of hooliganism in the area.
