A two-day meeting of the Ganjam BJP unit was held at the party office here on July 14 and 15 to analyse the factors behind the party’s defeat in the 2014 General elections.

The meeting, presided over by district party president Bijay Kumar Swain, was attended by senior leaders and party functionaries including the defeated Assembly candidates Bibhuti Jena (Gopalpur), Udayanath Pradhan (Chikiti) and BK Swain (Digapahandi), Sisir Padhi, Brahmapur lok Sabha pill coordinator Saroj Sabat, district general secretaries Gopinath Panda and Sunil Sahu and vice-president Prabir Patra, State Yuva Morcha secretary N Rajendra Kumar, district Yuva Morcha president Prabhat Sadangi and Mahanagar president

Dr Bhavani Shankar Das; Sanjay Choudhury.

The members held discussions in the presence of State party observers Raj Kishore Das and Dillip Mohanty.

Though all the candidates were defeated, the percentage of the party’s vote share increased significantly compared to the 2009 elections, they pointed out. They also discussed some internal deficiencies and improper coordination among the party rank and file, sources said.

The leaders unanimously decided to strengthen the party organisation at the grassroots level and urged party workers to work united and hard for this purpose.

The leaders hailed the appointment of Amit Shah as the party’s new national president. Under Shah’s leadership, the party would be more strengthened in Odisha, said the leaders. Besides, the leaders expressed their concern about the attitude of Jarada police station IIC Krushna Prasad Das towards the BJP workers in Chikiti. They alleged that Das is acting like an agent of the ruling BJD and harassing BJP workers by lodging false cases against them.

The meeting strongly condemned such arbitrary and unlawful attitude of the IIC and decided to inform about it to the party’s State and Central leaderships and to meet the Brahmapur DIG of Police and SP.
