The BJP is doing politics over the suicide of Lalit Kumar Sahoo who was cook of Health Minister Naba Kisore Das at his Sarbahal staff quarters, alleged the district BJD here.
“When the family members of the deceased are passing through hard days having lost a member, the BJP is trying to defame Minister Das to
further their political interests,” said the BJD leaders, adding that
the BJP was adopting the strategy after its mass defeat in the
panchayat and municipality poll.
“Das has no role in the sad demise of cook. He is unnecessarily being
dragged into this controversy. Police and Health Department have done
their duties as per rules without any irregularities,” said Town BJD
president Sandeep Awasthi in a Press meet on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the BJP in a Press conference regarding the cook’s death
said the suicide case in the staff quarters of Minister was
suspicious. “The Jharsuguda police and district administration are
trying to suppress the matter by cremating the body overnight at his
village after post mortem. Now, the general public is not able to know
whether it is a case of suicide or anything else,” said State BJP
secretary Tankadhar Tripathi.
A resident of Dhenkanal district under Balimi police station, Lalit
was working as a cook in the house of Minister Das and staying in the
staff quarters. Biranchi, the elder brother of Lalit, has given a
written statement that Lalit was passing through mental agony and
committed suicide after incurring heavy financial loss in online game.
The call records of his mobile phone say that he has requested his
friends for financial help, said police.
“However, the matter is being investigated further after registering
an UD case. It is suspected that Lalit has committed suicide on Sunday
evening at 7 pm. Thereafter, the body was handed over to his brother
Biranchi after 2 am. A clear picture will emerge after further
investigation in the case,” the IIC added.
