BJP demands mandis to open till July 15

PNS

The BJP on Thursday demanded that the Government must issue tokens to all registered farmers and purchase all their paddy stocks without any delay.

Besides, the party’s MLAs urged the Chief Minister to open the mandis up to July 15. Because of the faulty policies of the State Government and mismanagement in paddy procurement from the Kharif session, the entire paddy procurement system has become a mess, the party stated.  The nexus between the millers and the Government, the centralised token system, miller-specific facilities, lack of coordination between the Civil Supplies Corporation and the district procurement agencies are responsible for the sufferings of the farmers, it said.  As the Mandis are not functioning, farmers have no other alternative but to sell their crop @ Rs 1,200-Rs 1,300 a quintal, the BJP said.

The BJP legislators had raised the issue several times in the State Assembly, but the Government didn’t pay heed to this, rather ignored the legitimate demands of the farmers, said the party.

“It is unfortunate that the State Government is not purchasing paddy as per the MSP fixed by the Modi Government. Eeven, the Central Government’s money meant for farmers is not reaching them,” said party State general secretary Prithviraj Harichandan.
