BJP, BJD spar over two key projects

During his recent visit to Sundargarh district, Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram accused the State Government of delaying land acquisition for two vital projects, Talcher-Bimlagarh rail link and second bridge over river Brahmani at Jhirpani.

Reacting to Oram’s allegations, Biju Yuba Janata Dal Rourkela president Sanjiv Nayak in a Press note wanted to know Oram’s contribution to these two projects. However, he kept silent over the land acquisition delay.

Nayak alleged that due to non-cooperation of the earlier NDA Government, the Jhirpani Bridge over Brahmani could not be progressed. Oram, who was present with Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the foundation lying ceremony, had assured Central assistance for the project, he said.

While the NDA Government took back the first-phase sanctioned money, the UPA Government issued a written order for withdrawal of the project, Nayad added.

Nayak further alleged that Oram, during his stint as the Union Minister 10 years back, had not made any effort for the infrastructural development of Sundargarh district.

“Even in Bonai, his home constituency, 80 per cent of villages have neither electricity nor drinking water. That is why Bonai people have rejected BJP in the last election,” alleged Nayak.
