A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) delegation led by party State vice-president Sameer Mohanty on Tuesday met State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Surendra Kumar and submitted a memorandum to him alleging flouting of the model election code of conduct by Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Surjya Naryan Patro.
The BJP alleged that the Minister had gone to the CEO’s office in an official vehicle (OD 02 AP 3456) to lodge a complaint regarding the Bijepur by-poll on Monday.
Besides, the saffron party alleged that it is a futile attempt by the Minister to influence the electorate and official machinery in Bijepur by using his official position. The BJP demanded stringent action against the Minister according to the rules.
Among others, party State spokesperson Sajjan Sharma, secretary Kalindi Samal and national BJP vice-president Thakur Ranjit Das were present.
