The BJD on Friday staged its Jan Sampark Padayatra here to sensitise people about the Central Government’s neglect of Odisha.
BJD workers led by Berhampur Development Authority (BDA) Chairman Subash Moharana came in a procession from Kamapalli Over-bridge to Ramalingam Tank Road where they held a meeting.
BJD State election officer Pratap Deb, Brahmapur MP Sidhant Mohapatra, Aska MP ladu Kishore Swain and Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BMC) Mayor K Madhabi took part in the Padayatra.
On the other hand, members of the BJP led by Brahmapur Assembly constituency president Bhabani Shankar Das on Friday staged Satyagraha in front of the Gandhi statue at Gandhi Nagar here.
The BJP members alleged that the Congress and the BJD are responsible for the State’s present miserable situation as these two parties have ruled the State for long times.
“Even today farmers commit suicide, people could not get safe drinking water and die in dengue and cholera, poor villagers migrate to other States due to drought and lack of employment and lack of doctors in hospitals which exposes tall claim of the State Government,” said Das.
BJP leaders including party’s Ganjam district president Sisir Padhy, Bijay Swain and Saroj Sabat said the State Government needs to answer the public about the chit fund scam, Brahma Parivartan fiasco, Gajbhiye’s Government land encroachment and deterioration of law and order situation in the State.
