PNS

The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has termed the protests of Opposition BJP and Congress over the death of the Mahakalpada gangrape and burn victim Sujata as “cheap politics”.

In a joint statement, BJD vice-president and Panchyati Raj Minister Kalpataru Das, party general secretary and Energy Minister Arun Sahu and BYJD president and Government Deputy Chief Whip in Assembly Sanjay Dasburma claimed, “The people of the State have rejected the cheap politics of the opposition over the sensitive incident.”

Asserting that the people have “totally rejected” the 12-hour hartal called by the BJP, they said the show was limited to courting of arrest of some leaders of the party as the situation was normal on the month’s second Saturday, an official holiday.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had taken all possible and proper steps for the victim girl’s treatment, the BJD leaders further asserted.Reacting to a Congress delegation giving a petition to the Governor demanding resignation of the Chief

Minister and the Health Minister over the death of the Mahakalpada girl, the BJD leaders described the move as unfortunate. The Congress is resorting to “petty politics”, for which people have rejected it for the last 13 years and would continue to reject it in the 2014 general elections, they said.
