A week after Rourkela BJP MlA Dilip Ray expressed his displeasure over inordinate delay in starting construction work of the proposed second Brahmani bridge, the BJD on Sunday staged a demonstration at Panposh square protesting the delay.
Sources said hundreds of BJD activists gathered at the entrance point of existing Brahamani bridge on Rourkela side and staged a demonstration. Zilla Parisada Chairperson Emma Ekka and former Rourkela MlA Sharada Nayak were present, among others.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced twice here about construction of a second bridge over Brahamani here. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari laid the foundation stone in July this year and assured that the work would be started within fifteen days. But four months have passed, work has not yet started,” said Nayak.
He also criticised the Prime Minister for not keeping his promise of upgrading the IGH to a super speciality hospital and medical college.
The leaders threatened to intensify stir if the bridge work doesn’t begin soon.
