Commenting on the cancellation of membership of five BJD MLAs in view of their quitting the party without prior notices, the BJP on Sunday alleged that the ruling party is misusing powers of the Assembly Speaker.
“It is very disappointing that the Speaker terminated the membership of five BJD MLAs, who joined the BJP recently, on a petition of Government Chief Whip Amar Satpathy. The Speaker’s move indicates about the BJD’s fear of lose in polls only,” alleged BJP State vice-president and spokesperson Pitambar Archarya.
Acharya wanted to know why four NCP MLAs, who had joined the BJD in 2012 after a midnight coup against Naveen Patnaik, were not annulled by Speaker Amat then, despite a petition, similar to one filed by Satpathy, filed by the then NCP State president Utkal Keshair Parida.
He alleged that the BJD using powers of the Speaker for its own interest. He also wanted to know why members of MLA Naba Kishore Das and Sundargh MLA Jogesh Singh were not terminated even as they quit Congress and joined the BJD.
