The Biju Mahila Janata Dal (BMJD), Ganjam on Monday sent a memorandum to President Ram Nath Kovind through the RDC (Southern Division) urging him to direct the Union Government to withdraw the decision of hiking prices of both subsidised and non-subsidised lPG cylinders.

BMJD activists staged a dharna holding lPG cylinders at the RDC office and later submitted the memorandum.

“The Union Government hiked the lPG by Rs 4.50 per cylinder on Wednesday.

This is the 19th increase effected after July 2016 when the Government decided to eliminate subsidy by raising prices,” read the memorandum.

It also apprised the price of non-subsidised lPG has been hiked by Rs 93 to Rs 742 per cylinder. Similarly, subsidised lPG price has been hiked by Rs 76.51 to Rs 495.69 per cylinder.

“This arbitrary decision of the Centre has affected consumers financially. Kindly impress upon the Central Government to roll back the decision at the earliest,” said the memorandum.

A team lead by BMJD, Ganjam president Sanghamitra Dalai handed over the memorandum to the RDC.
