BJD members on Friday slammed the Union Government for deciding to shift the Central Warehousing Corporation from Odisha to Bihar.
Raising the issue during Zero Hour in the State Assembly, Government Chief Whip Pramila Mallick said PDS network in the State would be severely affected in the State if the Central Warehouse is shifted to Bihar. She wanted to know the motive behind such a move when the warehouse in Bhubaneswar has been earning profits for the last five years while the warehouse operating in Bihar is incurring loss.
“The Central warehouse is operating here since 1990. It is now making profits. If shifted, the public distribution system would be affected. Through the Chair, I request the Union Government not to shift the warehouse,” urged Mallick.
BJD member Amar Prasad Satpathy too made the same demand. He demanded that a unanimous resolution be passed in house against the proposed shifting of the Central Warehouse having a godown of 3,48,000-metric tonne capacity.
Leader of Opposition Pradipta Nayak intervened into the matter and told the House that BJP MPs from Odisha have already met Union Minister of Consumer Affairs Food and Public Distribution Ram Vilas Paswan over the matter, and the latter has given assurance that the warehouse would not be shifted.
